The first Nike Mercurial design of 2022 has launched and it features a fresh aesthetic for the new year as Nike outline their famous lightweight silo as the Blueprint of Speed. The Mercurial is Nike’s elite speed football boot and the update celebrates that with a design that calls out some of the boot’s key technologies in a revamped look for the brand.

So is it a new generation? Fair question. Although the Mercurial has taken on a new visual design for 2022, it is just that. The technology of the boot remains the same – the Superfly is still the 8th gen and the Vapor still the 14th – Nike have just given the series a timely wrap to freshen up the boot as they kick off a busy year of major footballing events.

The Nike Blueprint Pack, which is kicked off by the Mercurial but will be completed by Phantom and Tiempo colourways in due course, will be the brand’s first on-pitch collection of the new year and will continue on pitch until the spring. So you can expect to see the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr slipping into the Blueprint Mercurial from this week, before Phantom and Tiempo athletes receive their new wheels in the coming weeks and months.

So what are my choices? Well, you’ve got a few when it comes to the Nike Mercurial Blueprint Pack. Your first choice will be wether you want a collared boot or not. The Mercurial Superfly features that higher-cut Dynamic Fit Collar, whilst the Mercurial Vapor is the more traditional low cut design.

Then comes the choice of soleplate. The two soft ground options you’ve got are Anti-Clog, which is a technology that prevents mud from sticking to the bottoms of your boots, perfect for heavier park pitches, and then there’s the SG-Pro Player Edition soleplate, which is a slightly lighter SG plate for wet pitches that are less prone to cutting up, such as professional surfaces.

Both the Superfly and Vapor series are available in Firm Ground (FG) and Artificial Ground (AG) plates to suit whichever surface you play on. The complete Nike Blueprint Pack will be made up of a number of price points so you can Level Up throughout the prices points should you wish to benefit from advanced technologies as you make your way up to Elite. There’s a boot here for everyone in the world’s largest Boot Room, so get stuck in and find the right one for you.

The Nike Blueprint Pack also offers you the chance to complete the look with goalkeeper gloves, accessories, clothing, shin pads and footballs all featuring that vibrant “Chlorine Blue/Laser Orange/Marina” colour combination.
